DSLR Comparison reviews

I have an Olympus E-510 body (the kit… ugh) and it’s working out pretty well for me, I love the feel of the body and it’s just about right for me. There isn’t as much selection among Zuiko lenses as one might hope, so I am wondering if Canon or Nikon lenses can be compatible with my Olympus?

No unfortunately they will not. As fhotoace says some older lenses will work on some modern bodies, but only on more recent versions of the brands that they were designed for. There were some converter/adapters made to do things like allow a Minolta/Sony to use Nikon lenses but they are rare and hard to find.
One thing I will point out though, contrary to fhotoace’s opinion, ALL Auto Focus Minolta lenses will work on Sonys – every single one of them. There were a few – not many – Sigma lenses with Minolta mounts that needed re-chipping before they could be used in anything but manual mode on Sonys which might be where he is getting confused. There are a number of third party entities who will re-chip lenses now that Sigma is having stock problems.
The four thirds system is a little bit of an orphan with regard to legacy lenses, but nonetheless they do exist – as do adapters to allow a wider range of older Olympus OM lenses.

    No they will not.
That is why it is so important to do the research before you decide on a camera system. In fact, none of the older Olympus lenses will work on the new 4/3rds Olympus DSLR bodies. You will be buying the 4/3rds Zuiko or leica lenses for your camera from now on.
This is one thing the sales people neglect to tell buyers of DSLR’s is that of all the DSLR’s on the market, Nikon has the most lenses available for all but their entry level DSLR’s since 1959, Canon is next with all the lenses made since 1988 available for their EOS DSLR’s and Pentax can still use all their K-mount lenses on their DSLR’s There can be a bit of an issue figuring out which of the old Minolta auto-focus lenses will work 100% on the Sony DSLR’s
Actually I have not heard that any of the fine Olympus lenses are anything but excellent glass.http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_sectio…

I know you can mount Nikon lenses on an E510 because I have done it with an adapter (you can get one on Ebay pretty cheap). However, you lose auto focus and even the AF green light indicator does not light up to assist you.
You will be able to meter ok with the Nikon lenses…as long as the Nikon lens has an Aperture Ring to change the aperture. This is usually found on older Nikon lenses (non-G lenses).
I do not know if there is an adapter for Canon lenses.
I am curious about what lenses you find lacking for the E510. About the only one I think is lacking is a cheap walk around lens (a 14-70 or 14-80mm lens) to match up directly with the 70-300mm.

No Sorry You Just Cant use Olyempus Lens On Any Of the Stated DSLRS. Because Olympus DSLRS uses 4:3 Aspect ration Or Four Third System intheir Cameras , here A Canon , Nikkon , Sony , Fuji
Uses 3:2 System.Thats Why It Is Not Compatible. And olympus Lens Mount Is Also Different Than rest. So it Is Better Not To try that .
