What’s the difference between say a 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens? What are these different lenses for? etc.?
thanks!

One Response to “I Need Help Understanding Different Types Of Dslr Lenses?”

The millimeters refer to the focal length of the lens. As a photographer, you don’t need to know the math behind what focal length is, but you do need to know that lower focal length lenses make pictures with wider views and higher focal lengths make narrower views.
You also need to practice with the lenses so you learn what focal length to use for the picture in your imagination that you’re trying to create. That’s the most important part to you as a photographer.
A 18-55mm lens is a good choice for general use and moderately wide pictures.
A 55-200mm lens is good for medium to long distance photography. (Narrower view.)
We have an article about this on our website.
