What Is The Best Camera That Isnt A Dslr For A Photographer? Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack for Nikon D300 & D700 Digital SLR Cameras

My old Nikon F-4 SLR allowed me to aim at a neutral grey area (like grass) for exposure, press the exposure preset button, then hold that button down while moving to the selected subject for automatic focus while snapping picture, maintaining the neutral grey exposure. Is there a DSLR camera that has that feature? Nikon tells me they don’t have a DSLR with that feature. Thanks!

My Canon 30D has the exposure lock feature. I’m assuming all of Canon’s X0D line do. I’m not sure about their entry-level cameras though.
Well really they do. Just press part way down on the shutter release to hold the exposure. You will have to assure your are using manual focus or the auto-focus is in the “continuous” mode. Or just use the manual exposure feature, manually set the aperture and shutter speed and the recompose and shoot.
What kind of unusual lighting are you shooting in that requires you to use a gray card? As with all Nikon cameras, 35 mm SLR or DSLR, the center weighted metering mode has served professional photographers well for over forty years. I have been using that meter mode professionally since the introduction of the Nikon F2. I still use it now when shooting with my D3 and D300.
Since unlike film cameras, you can instantly analyze your exposure by looking at the LCD on digital cameras, any tiny changes in exposure you may need to make, can done nearly instantly, but in actual practice, just trust your cameras meter.
Most cameras (even a lot of little P&S) have custom white balance.
It takes more than just one step to do it, but it most certainly can be done.
I use Canons, but without a shadow of a doubt, all Nikon DSLRs have that function, too.
Just as an example, check out page 58 http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/nopr…
Seems that Nikon calls it “WB preset”.
